چکیده

The fast development of aquaculture over the past decades has made it main source fish protein and led to its integration into global food system. Mostly originating from inland production systems, emerged as strategy decrease malnutrition in low-income countries. Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) was introduced Madagascar 1950s, is now produced nationally at various scales. Aquaculture mostly relies on fry harvested wild populations grow-out ponds for decades. It recently been diversified by introduction several fast-growing strains. Little known how local genetic diversity compares strains, although high comparable levels have previously observed both stocks. Our study DNA barcode among eight farms strains belonging three species sampled. DNA-based lineage delimitation methods were applied resulted detection six well differentiated highly divergent lineages. A comparison records sequences Barcode Life Data System (BOLD) helped trace origin them. Both haplotype nucleotide indices highlight mitochondrial diversity, with displaying higher than This allows multiple options maintain broodstock provides more selective breeding programs.

Formation of ring marks in stocked tilapia juveniles (Oreochromis aureus/O. niloticus) (Perciformes: Cichlidae).

Lake Metztitlán was dried up completely in the spring of 1998 and refilled in August of that year. In the period September-November, two cohorts of 1.6 million juveniles of a tilapia hybrid were stocked (Oreochromis aureus/O. niloticus), and monitored every month for one year. Since the date of birth of these juveniles was known, the analyses focused on whether the ring marks of the scales, sag...

Impacts of Oreochromis mossambicus (Perciformes: Cichlidae) upon habitat segregation among cyprinodontids (Cyprinodontiformes) of a species flock in Mexico.

Five species of Cyprinodon in Laguna Chichancanab, Yucatan, Mexico comprise a young species flock whose ecology and evolution has not been thoroughly studied, but whose existence is threatened with extinction. Species flocks evolve in isolated areas where predators and competitors are absent. Since the description of the Chichancanab flock, Oreochromis mossambicus, a species introduced into the...

Reproductive biology of Oreochromis niloticus (Perciformes: Cichlidae) at Emiliano Zapata dam, Morelos, Mexico.

The reproductive season of tilapia was studied by monthly samplings at Emiliano Zapata dam, Morelos State, Mexico. From February 1999 through February 2000 a sample of 50 fish was taken from the commercial catch (castnet, 6.5 cm of mesh size). The observed sex ratio was 1:1.29 (females:males) (chi(2)=10.26; p<0.05). The tilapia reached maturity at 151.3 mm (females) and 152.0 mm (males) of tota...

Reproductive aspects of Oreochromis niloticus (Perciformes: Cichlidae) at Coatetelco Lake, Morelos, Mexico.

Sex ratio, size at maturity, maturity stages, fecundity and egg diameter of Oreochromis niloticus from Coatetelco Lake, Morelos State, Mexico, were studied from January to December 1993. Sex ratio (male:female) was approximately 1:1.02. Length at maturity was 117 mm (males) and 120 mm (females). The fecundity ranged between 104 and 709 eggs, with egg diameter from 1,000 to 3,000 microns. The go...
